I need lychee

Im going through lychee withdrawls. My trees have about 4 more months before they're officially one year olds and then i'll be a score away from my lychee grove. It's been a tough year the bunch thus far 3 hurricans and now that temperatures are starting to dip. On another note, since last years lychee jam was a success, next year I think I'll add lychee wine to my things to try and also longan jam. I think its time I go to my favorite asian food store for to resupply.

Here's another look at the brown spot it's hard to the touch, it's basically dead, think I should just break the leaf off?

Here's a better shot of the brown spot on one of the leaves. I hope it doesn't require some medical attention.

Look at that, It looks like my lychee are about to experience their first hurricane. I think I'll bring them inside, but think of all the water they'll be missing. Hmmmmm, looks like this one is going to Lynchburg too. Be ready!!! 

Here is a recent picture of the tree in the back of the house. If you loojk closely you can see the brown spot I mentioned earlier.

August in Florida means that it rains everyday at 4. It's absoletly true. So far I've potted and moved outside two more plants. I think that something is stunting their growth because they arnt getting as big as the others were atound this age. I'll have pics tomorrow.

Nothing much to report on yet again

What I need are buckets, big buckets have some? I need about 5. Let me know, I'll even pick them up myself. The orchard is going to have to fend for itself for the next few days while I work on my other project

Another rainy day

It rained pretty good today so I don't think I have to water that much.  I'm still not sure what the spot on the leaf is or it's cause but its not getting any bigger so that's a plus.  It's time that I start to look for bigger pots for the ones inside too.  New thought: lychee bonsai

In case you were wondering what our lychee jam looked like, here it is! As you can see the pulp was left in (the brown stuff), in the future this will be removed.  As, for an update on the orchard one of the leaves on the plants outside has developed a rather large brown spot on it I don't know what caused it but I know that it happened over night.  I suspect i'll be down a tree pretty soon.

Rainy day

Today it rained pretty good so I'm not too worried about the soil moisture.  However, I remember while replanted the outside trees, I found a slug sleeping in the pot.  I didn't think anything of it and returned it back to its home when I was done.  I hope it doesn't eat my leaves.  For the next week I'll begin a nightly watch (since they are nocturnal) for the sucker.

Lychee Jam

Recently with a large abundance of left over lychee, I decided to make lychee jam.

Here's the recipe:

4 cups of lycheee, shelled and seeded
1.5 cups of sugar
freezer pectin

1. combine in a bowl mix and allow to sit for 15 minutes
2. add the pectin, place in jam jar then place in freezer

That's it!! Yup it's just that easy

My results were a very sweet jam, almost too sweet, I think longan might be better.
I enjoy the jam on toast or a peanut butter and lychee jam sandwich.

OH NO!!!!

I found this on another website:"Lychees have no drought tolerance whatsoever. They must be kept moist at all times. Whereas most trees will wilt when dry, then recover sometime after watering, the Lychee will not recover from a dry-out, but will drop its leaves and eventually die."

I hope that isn't what's happening to my lychee. Im going to up the watering to twice a day now.

Here's the other one that I have outside. As you may be able to tell the newest leaves are starting to wilt. I'm not sure why but I think it's either pest or wilt from all the rain that's fallen lately in the Tampa area. can anyone help?
